After news of Darius White broke, I called to ask The Asset what he had heard about the sudden departure of this enigmatic cancer player. The Asset told me that White had been making negative comments about the program to not only DGB but other prospects on visits. I won’t lie, I was very troubled by the Asset’s confirmation considering last season’s well documented locker room issues, but the following has me feeling a bit better about things.
The Asset told me that Demarco Cobbs had to be physically restrained from dotting Darius White when he heard of Darius’ chirping. Good on Demarco for policing that locker room. As for White, well, may you continue to have skillets for hands and a Puritan work ethic.

Goodbye Darius. What a waste of talent. You cannot ever ask someone to do what they do not want to do. The mind can be a great asset or it can become your biggest enemy. I hope he ends up at that cesspool they call Texas A&M. Think that would be a good fit.

I heard from a long time ago from someone very close to the program that specifically, Darius White told DGB NOT to come to Texas because he wouldn’t get any playing time while they were all hanging out in the hotel the Friday night before the Kansas State game. Both the coaches and other players were furious which pretty much just ruined White’s chances of ever playing here again.

What a drag. His tweet a few days ago mentioned going back to Ft Worth. Was that just a reference to going home, or is there a chance he ends up at TCU? And how, if at all, to the in-conference transfer rules apply when a school has announced but not yet joined?

My answer would have been, “why, because you’re going to keep me off the field- skillet hands?!”
Tex Long said:

A while back I wrote about the lack of proper attitude in the receiver corps, and the several aspects of that, including the need for an absolute belief that “this is MY motherfucking ball, and no dipshit wearing a different color outfit is gonna keep me from getting it”.
I would add to that list the “dancing in the end-zone” that seems to enter the minds of many receivers before they’ve even caught the ball, much less crossed the goal line. I noticed on several of White’s non-catches that he looked to have forgotten about actually catching the ball and to be turning up-field and thinking about his end zone dance during that instant before the ball reached his hands.
Not sorry to see him leave, under the circs, but I sure wish he’d had enough functional neurons to understand what he had to do besides have that physical talent… maybe some other coach can help him and get the light in there, and if that happens, I hope we don’t have to play him, but if we do, I sincerely hope that whoever the Next Machete is, he chops the sorry fucker in half.
Okay, [/rant]

Wasn’t Darius White the recruit who got all tangled up because of the nametag given to his high school teammate at a Junior Day? That should have been a sign…
Also, as you trash wide receivers (and I generally agree), think about the greatness that is Andre Johnson. Not only the best WR in the NFL but also the most humble.

Article in the local desert newspaper made the point that the jive-ass “look at me!” WRs are on the decline (TO, OchoCinco, etc) and the new WR studs are a much classier group (Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson) …

Aside from the bashing of Darius White (which is deserved), I think the staff needs to focus on trying to prevent a situation like this from arising again. Stopping it at the recruiting phase, doing periodic locker room checks, or yearly evaluations before renewing scholarships – don’t discount the effect of negative recruiting. It’s an old concept taught in any basic management class. If you provide good service, maybe a person recommends you to 3 other people. However, if you’re downright terrible, that same person will go out of his/her way to tell 11 people about the piss poor quality of your work.
In the event, DGB commits elsewhere – the shadows of Darius White will linger and we’ll be left wondering “What if?”

You could tell from their Rivals pic’s when they were still in high school, they just looked like scary freaking guys. Same with Tevin Jackson. Still a lot left to be seen, but I love the direction the identity of this team is headed…. talented and violent. Hahah.

I agree it will be hard to replace Acho18 and Keenan, both played at a very good and high energy level for us. Sadly, we didnt get to see much from Cobbs with the broken hand/arm. my only tie to the program was in the room at the time — present with players ONLY — and he said that Cobbs and White had had bad blood since an on-field incident last season.
take that for what its worth, coming second hand from a scholly offensive player allegedly in the room at the time.

that may, again MAY, also speak to why he wasnt suspended — no coaches were in the room (i dunno about staff), and this was a players policing incident — as they kept it to themselves. once DW’s scholly was not renewed, some of the players may have spoken up about the scuffle. i cant speak to DW’s negative recruiting.
again, this is only MY speculation as to why/how DW was not suspended. I havent even spoken to my guy this year since Harsin was hired, so i cant really speculate more than that. and again, it is only MY speculation.

It was obvious he had a bad attitude even then and he never did all that much on the field. He did have one good punt return, but as a WR, he was shut down repeatedly by average DBs.
He has the potential but I don’t see him ever living up to it because apparently I was right about his attitude.

It’s kind of stunning to me that White couldn’t get it together and stay on the field this year. If ever there was an opportunity to grab a spot by the balls this year was it. He was the only guy who seemed physically to have true breakout, big-play talent, but he never learned to block, run routes, or catch. So he’s like a less physical Malcolm Williams, without the heart and grit that Malc always brought (fault him on his hands, but the kid played hard). So it goes.
Man, everyone else seems to be MUCH better at finding receivers than we are. You know, like TAMU, Ok State, OU, UH, etc. That’s got to change.
